So Distant, Yet So Close
My name is Aaron Eutsay, but everyone calls me A. I am a young man who made a poor decision and is paying a heavy price. I allowed the allure of having material things that had I honestly worked for, although it would've taken some time I could've had and would've appreciated more. The streets were an early option for me, and it controlled my life, leading to me being arrested for the first time at 14 and caged for an extended time at 16.
During that time, my mom and sister moved to Florida in search of a better life, and to get away from the madness of the Harlem streets. Once I was released, I joined my family in Florida. Once I was there, I felt out of place, like a burden and wanted to contribute to our household.
After growing frustrated with not finding sufficient employment, I moved back to New York to create my own opportunities, which led me to another 8 year incarceration and abandoning of my family. Prison will change you but it's up to you to decide whether the change is positive or negative.
Currently I am enrolled in college pursuing my Associates Degree in Entrepreneurship Management . I want to become successful to inspire my fellow incarcerated brothers, to prove to myself, my family, and society that I am more than the decisions I've made out of circumstance and I can in fact, lead a positive life and become a leader in my community. I also plan to utilize my education to serve as an asset to my friend and brother, Cadeem Gibbs have The ROUNDTABLE Project recognized a worldwide movement.
Beneath the stereotype and labels are a humble, loyal, intellectual, and funny human being. Nah. I'm really probably one of the funniest people you will meet. I'm very approachable and outgoing. I can't wait to visit Africa, Haiti, Cat Island, Canada, Tokyo and explore all sorts of worldly cuisine. Oh, I'm also a HUGE foodie!!!
You can write me a few lines or send postcards/photos. I'm just trying to maintain human relationships in this dark place and I just want to see the world!
